Please note that if you choose to pay for a t-shirt via Parent Portal, I need families to let me know the size needed, either with a paper copy of the above slip or an email. I receive monthly reports of family payments and there is no notation of size requested on the report. Thank you!
Students who completed an individually-selected summer project are welcome at 5:30 pm to set up a display.
Please come at 6:00 pm to see classmates' projects.
Please arrive by 6:30 pm for remarks by Dr. Baron Davis and an overview of the ALERT year.
Welcome to the ALERT program! We look forward to discovering our students’ talents, exploring their interests, and building a partnership with you during the 2017-2018 academic year.
Supplies will be provided to each student. These materials are purchased by the ALERT teachers with the annual ALERT fees paid by our students. We thank you for your continued support.
*FEES: A $25.00 annual ALERT fee (cash, check, or online payment) is required from each student to cover classroom supplies and innovative resources.
PLEASE make your check payable to ALERT and include your telephone number, child’s name, and grade on each check.
*ALERT EXPECTATIONS FORM: Please discuss these expectations with your child, sign, and return the form along with the fee.
Please email your child’s teacher and include a brief note with your child’s name to allow us to set up email addresses for communication about class events, field studies, and gifted opportunities in the greater Columbia area. We also maintain a website for classes at http://rsd2-alert-durden.weebly.com/ with a news blog at http://rsd2-alert-durden.weebly.com/news.
Thank you for your support,
The ALERT Team
The slideshow below includes details about the ALERT summer camp offering available June 25th-28th at Jackson Creek Elementary School.
The camp will be in session 8:30-3:00 each day, students will have morning and afternoon sessions on different topics, and will need to bring a bag lunch. The cost of the camp is $110.
ALERT teachers would like to invite students to stay ALERT over the summer by participating in a voluntary ALERT summer activity or project!
We will be showcasing your ideas and the products you create over the summer at a Project Fair during Fall 2018.
Have a look at the attached packet for suggestions for Young Inventors, Artists, Recyclers (adaptive Reuse), and Readers or come up with a project of your own!
We are celebrating the gifted and talented program this Sunday afternoon, May 20th, at Spirit Communications Park (1640 Freed Street, Columbia SC 29201) with a free event for our elementary gifted families in the District.
The five finalists' for our Winter 2018 T-shirt design contest will have their artwork featured on a T-shirt on sale at the event. I regret we cannot preorder the shirts, but there will be a range of youth and adult sizes available on Sunday.
We hope you can drop by!
